The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has commended Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for its diligence and professionalism in discharging its duties within the state.
Declaring the Lagos International Trade Fair 2016 holding at Tafawa Balewa Square open, Mr. Tunji Bello, Secretary to the State Government who represented the Governor was of the view that, LAWMA as an agency of government saddled with the responsibility of regulating Waste Management in the State has keyed into His Excellency’s Vision of Waste Management in a megacity.
Mr. Bello who was accompanied by the President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Nike Akande and other dignitaries, was particularly impressed that government’s efforts at ridding the State of waste are complimented by the activities of LAWMA through various innovations and activities geared towards cleaner Lagos.
Welcoming the dignitaries to the LAWMA stand, the Head, Public Affairs Department of the Authority, Mr. Lanre Bajulaiye said that LAWMA is currently embarking on various initiatives to ensure that effective service is rendered to all Lagosians promptly. He particularly mentioned Recycling which helps reduce waste at the dumpsite while providing employment and wealth generation within the state. Furthermore, he explained the need for Lagosians to sort, categorize and bag their wastes before disposal so as to assist the recycling processes.
He also informed that LAWMA presently has Monitoring and Advocacy Officers spread across the state who ensures that illegal dumpsites and black spots are identified and cleared while educating the public on the need for adhering to proper Waste Management processes.
