The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed Salako and Powa Markets at Ogba, during its shanties clearing operation around Ojodu Berger, Ogba, Agege, and the environs.
Two traders in Salako Market were also arrested for dumping refuse on the road median while a house on Iju Road was sealed for evacuating refuse from its premises to the drains.
The operation was carried out to restore the environmental sanity of the area badly violated by indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, drains, and other unapproved locations, according to the leader of the enforcement team, Mr. Abayomi Atkinson.
The operation also included the service of ‘intention to seal order’, on some buildings in the area for patronizing cart pushers, reckless dumping of waste, harboring street traders, and refusal to patronize PSP operators.
Commenting further, the representative of the head of enforcement, Mr. Atkinson, hinted that such operations would be continuous, urging markets and residents in general, to properly dispose of their waste to avoid severe sanctions and patronize PSP in their domains.
