LAWMA Recycling Bank
Recycling being a suitable alternative is an ideal option for green living which encourages sustainable development in the society.
That's why as part of our initiative towards managing waste effectively and making life in Lagos more habitable, we have introduced
the LAWMA Recycling Bank, which shall be situated in every estate within Lagos metropolis to serve as a storehouse for recyclable
materials in the following categories: Paper, Can, Glass and Plastic.

It is statistically proven that an average of 0.5 Kg of waste is generated by each individual on a day-to-day basis, which accounts for
approximately 9,000MT of waste generated daily. Sadly, this pile of waste ends up in the landfill sites which are filling fast.

The purpose of the recycling bank is to bring a sense of collective responsibility to the heart of waste management in Lagos State,
making it a productive and participatory venture between the government and the people.

It is required that residents of housing estates embrace recycling by sorting waste from trash and keeping recyclable materials in
separate containers/ bags to be disposed of appropriately at the LAWMA Recycling Bank. For instance, a person disposing glass
bottles and plastic bottles should endeavour to separate them in different containers and dump them in their respective banks as
against disposing them together. By separating the waste from source, it makes the process of recycling easier.

A Valid Alternative to Landfill for a Wide Variety of Waste
Through recycling we can prolong the lifespan of landfills !
The LAWMA Recycling Bank has been created to aid the disposal of waste and boost up recycling. As the concern about landfill
space increases, worldwide interest in recycling is growing.

Tips to Improve the Way You Recycle
These steps help prevent contamination and reduce the volume of recyclables, making collection more energy efficient.

Buy only what you need:
Reduce unnecessary waste by avoiding those pointless purchases. Items that rarely get used can be borrowed or shared with
others.

Buy products that can be reused:
Buy bottles instead of cans and rechargeable batteries. Items such as this create very little waste, as they don't have to be thrown
away after they have been used just once.

Buy all-purpose household cleaner:
Instead of buying many different ones for each cleaning role.

Buy products with little packaging:
So that less packaging ends up in your rubbish bin. For those items you use regularly, buy them in bulk instead of in smaller
amounts. This will save you money as well as reduce waste.

Buy products that can be recycled:
When shopping at the supermarket, buy products that can be recycled easily such as glass jars and tin cans.

Buy products that have been made from recycled material:
You can tell if a product is eco-friendly by looking at the label on the packaging.

Avoid buying hazardous materials:
It is difficult to recycle products that contain hazardous waste. Try to find safer alternatives to household cleaners and buy non-toxic
products whenever possible.
